AI Quest, explained for parents
AI Quest is a weekly build game for 13–16 year olds. Your teen picks one project they actually care about, learns to write the four-part prompt that makes a free AI chatbot build it as a real web app, tests it, improves it, and pitches it to you on Sunday. The point is not the app — it is that after a handful of missions they can write their own prompts with no help. The training wheels come off on a schedule.
The deal you are agreeing to
- Finishing all four levels in a week guarantees 2 extra weekend screen-time hours. That part is not negotiable once earned — it is what makes the game trustworthy.
- Cash ($5–$20) is your call, decided at the Sunday pitch, based on effort and how well they explain what they built and which parts of the prompt they wrote themselves.
- The reward buttons live in a parent view behind a 4-digit PIN you set. Your teen cannot award themselves the hours.
What it costs
Nothing. The AI work happens in a free ChatGPT or Claude account your teen already has access to — they paste a prompt into the normal chat box and download one file. No installs, no paid plans, no coding tools.
What data this site collects
- Stays in your browser: your teen's answers, their generated build plan, their progress, and your parent PIN. None of it is sent to a server or tied to an account. Clearing the browser's site data removes all of it.
- Sent to our analytics (PostHog, US servers): a self-chosen first name or nickname and anonymous usage events — which mission was picked, which level was reached, whether a prompt was copied. This exists so we can see where kids get stuck and improve the game.
- Never collected: email addresses, passwords, real names beyond what your teen types as a nickname, addresses, photos, messages, or screen recordings. Session replay is off. There are no ads and nothing is sold or shared.
- The AI Coach: your teen's three project answers are sent to OpenAI's API to generate the build plan, with storage disabled on those requests. Coach the kids to keep personal details out of their answers — the site reminds them too.

Your job on Sunday (5 minutes)
- Ask for the live link and tap around the app yourself.
- Ask what broke during testing and what they asked the AI to change.
- Ask which parts of the prompt they wrote themselves — that is the skill being built.
- Decide on cash. The 2 hours are already theirs if all four levels are done.
